Cultural & Heritage

Cultural quarters, heritage districts, restored buildings of significance. The work where strategy, conservation, and engineering must be solved together.

Position

A cultural quarter is not a real-estate problem with a heritage overlay. It is a heritage problem that has been asked to support a real-estate programme.

Cultural and heritage projects are where Berkley is structured to do its most distinctive work. They demand a cultural strategy, a curatorial position, a conservation approach, and a delivery model — all coordinated under a single project lead. We are organised so that the strategy and the design and the engineering do not get handed between three different firms.

How we work in this sector

01

Reading the building first

Every cultural project begins with a measured survey and a conservation reading of what is already there — whether the building is statutorily protected or not.

02

Strategy as an architectural input

The cultural strategy and audience proposition are inputs to the brief, not decoration on top of a finished design. Strategy and design develop together.

03

Delivery without erasure

Programmes change. Construction is hard. We design so that adaptation can happen without erasing the historical fabric — and we supervise the build to make sure it does not.

Representative brief

A new cultural and commercial district built around three restored heritage compounds. Strategy, architecture, engineering, and supervision delivered as one commission.
